Aladdin The Musical Gala Premiere @ Sunway Lagoon Amphitheatre

OH EM GEE. What a night!

I was at the Gala Premiere Night of Aladdin The Musical yesterday. I have nothing else to say but one word – AWESOMETASTIC!

The stage

OK, maybe that’s not enough to sum up the whole show so I’ll walk you through on some of what I had experienced at the musical. The backdrop was beautiful in EVERY scene! Love all the details they put into the backdrop and the colors of the lighting so that it blends well with the clothes and dances. The stage looked very spacious in comparison to when I was there for the behind the scenes tour.

When I registered at the Surf Beach entrance, I was placed under the “media” section and so we went to the Lighthouse Cafe first for refreshments (yummy food freshly cooked) before going to the amphitheatre with the buggy ride. I brought a +1 to the musical and who else would I bring if not my mom? The last time I went to the Magical Musicals Gala Premiere, I brought my aunt so it’s only fair that this time I bring my mom first. She totally enjoyed the food at Lighthouse Cafe. Then it was time to go to the amphitheatre where I met Shemah and her sister. Met Karen too.

Mr. Aaron Soo gave a speech first before the musicals starts, thanking all the sponsors and partners for making the musical come true.

Then it started. And I was blown away. What a performance! We saw Aladdin made a spectacular “flying” entrance on the zip line, then there’s the gorgeous Princess Jasmine and her father the Sultan, the phenomenal headpiece of the evil Jafar (it’s even bigger than the girls’ headpieces), the very cheeky and funtastic Genie with all his dancing and butt-gyrations and every other incredible things included in the production – especially the 3D lights and flying live chickens on stage. This had been an amazing performance. It doesn’t matter that it was the first night and the sound system needed to be tweaked a little (just a little).

It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. (I don’t know why my vocab is very limited right now. )

I’m sure you guys have heard of the Aladdin tale but this is unlike the tale you see on TV brought by Disney. This is a more modern with a slightly “naughty” twist type of musical. The music brought to this musical are from current pop songs you hear on the radio. Apart from the classical “A Whole New World” song, there’s also Travie McCoy’s “Billionaire”, Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” and so many others. Not to forget the attention-seeker Genie who sings every time he makes and entrance!

The best part of this night? Only those who came on the Gala night get to take photos with the cast. So, of course I would not miss out on this chance! I had my mom take the photos for me though she can’t take a decent photo to save her life. Jess Elmer (Slave Of The Ring) remembered me and suddenly just hugged and kissed me. She’s absolutely gorgeous! All the others are friendly as well. Peter Jamieson (Sultan) is so camera friendly and will hug you anytime and Michael Morgan (Jafar) is just so cool, always ready to give “evil” stares to the camera.

I was laughing all the time at this show and I know I am not going to regret going to this musical again next week.
