#MSS2011 Goodbye Golden Palm Tree Resort & Hello Genting! – Day 3 (Part 1)

Morning!

I woke up with a bad pull at both my thighs. *Ouch!* This is what happen when you don’t warm up before you cycle. If you haven’t cycle for years, please make sure you do some warming up exercise or stretch your body before cycling for miles. Oh, and make sure you use the right “gear” on your bicycle too. :-P

We had our breakfast at Bila Bila Restaurant again this morning. This time, I was the one who woke up late in comparison to Siti and Fie. :-P Like I said in my last post, I had a hard time going to sleep and wishing I don’t have to get up from the comfy bed. I just had about 4 croissant with butter and honey. Ahhh, bliss.. I love having this kind of breakfast. With the sound of the waves just nearby.

Anyways, right after breakfast, it’s time for us to pack up our stuffs before heading to our next destination – Awana Genting Highlands. I accidentally left my Calvins jeans after checking out. Luckily I remember about it and went back to get it, it is my favourite jeans of all time. LOL! After passing our room and meal cards, we headed to a nearby food stall for a light lunch since journey to Awana Genting would take about 2 hours plus. Everybody had fried mee and I had coconut as my drink. Poor Feeq, he had been having a stomachache the whole night and morning.

Mr. Pascal Prigent, the General Manager of  Golden Palm Tree Sea Villas & Spa graced us with his presence and to see us off. Thank you Mr Prigent, let’s keep on supporting Arsenal FC. Go Gunners! :-D

We savoured our 2-hour journey to Awana Genting by… sleeping!

If you’re wondering why we’re going to Genting when this is called MySelangorStory, you must remember that Genting Highlands is actually located in both the state of Selangor and Pahang. 2,461-acres of land is in the state of Selangor and 8,157-acres of land is in the state of Pahang.

Awana Genting welcomed us with “bunga manggar” but I think since everybody sort of just woke up from sleep 5 minutes before, everybody looked blur, myself included. We headed straight to the Lobby Lounge and not long after that, the VIPs arrive – YB Elizabeth Wong and Dato Anthony Yeo along with Alison Wee and Syahrul Zuhara.

Dato Anthony Yeo’s speech :

  1. The very important 3R’s – REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.
  2. Eco-tourism is the way to go – experiencing flora and fauna up-close and personal.
  3. The importance of ecology and what we should do to preserve it instead of tarnishing it with unnecessary development.
  4. Genting Highlands have more than 10,618-acres of land. Part of this land is a 120-million year old virgin forest of which we bloggers will be allowed to explore later.
  5. The virgin forest housed thousands of living organisms, some of which are endangered species birds and also migrating birds. There is a special Important Bird Area, a site dedicated to conserve birds and other biodiversity.
  6. Dato encourages physical activity such as jogging which not only is good for the physical body but also mentally. However, as Dato advices, it is better to jog in the day, where the green plants are going through photosynthesis and producing more oxygen instead of jogging at night where no photosynthesis process is being done and there are more carbon dioxide than oxygen. (We sort of had a mini biology class from Dato. :-P )
  7. Preserving trees and natural habitat of animals will help future generation in knowing and learning more about the living things instead of losing it all and only learning about them in books.
Kids, if you need ideas for a school essay on eco-friendly, you can use the points listed above. ;-)

"Mr. Mohd. Najib Ariffin, Head of Awana Genting resort's Fun & Adventure Unit warning us of leeches and creepy crawlers"

After some refreshments and compulsory photos, we left the lounge to hear more of our activity of the day. We were supposed to take group photo and even though I handed my camera to Fy to help take photo, there were about 22 cameras with her and it was taking quite a while. After about the 5th camera, Mr. Najib was already rushing us to the conference room, telling us to “hurry”. Sadly, I don’t have the group photo. :-( I don’t think Mr. Najib gets the importance of photos to bloggers. *shrug*

At the conference room, we found out the activities that are in store for us (such as nature trek, indoor rock climbing and more). Whoa, that’s a lot! Since we arrived quite late though, they told us that the only activity they have for us that day are outdoor Abseiling, and some night activity after dinner. I counted my lucky stars because if there was a more grueling activity, I didn’t think I can manage with my crazy painful leg.

We then walked all the way from Awana Genting Hotel to the abseiling area which is also nearby to where we’re going to stay for the night – the Longhouse! Wow! I’ve never tried abseiling or stayed in a longhouse before. This sounds exciting already.. Have you guys tried abseiling before?

Sorry to hear about your cramped leg! :( It sucks especially when you've got so much more exciting activities ahead of you! I haven't tried Abseiling before and I've always wanted to try it!! The MSS2011 activities are right up my alley! All nature and all adventure is definitely my cup of tea!! <3 Best!!!

This year's MSS is all about eco-tourism and being eco-friendly and the 3R's.. I'm sure you suka benda2 ni kan? Hehe..
You must try the Abseiling.. The feeling like falling, I cannot describe lah.. But make sure your angle to betul, if not sakit kaki je.. If you ever try it, do the 90degrees thingy too.. I so want to try that la one of these days! This kinda activity I suka but kalau nak suruh masuk hutan, I lazy la..

Time to move on to another place. I figure I might be in the same state as you if I cycle without warming up these days. Getting a little old need to warm up those joints first before you get on with such activities.. Couldn't wait to see what the next activity will be then :)

  6. Danny Ahmad says:
